Vello Vinn’s (b. 1939) “Stone Sphere I” belongs to a series depicting the same motif, interpreting the opposite poles of yin and yang, originating from Chinese philosophy, as rock-hard. The universe and the beginning are also associated with this image.
Vinn’s relief print “Stone Sphere I” depicts the traditional position of the yin sign in a mirror image, filled with a complex pattern. In this way, Vinn interprets the central visual sign of Taoism as playful and open to various interpretations, including surreal and decorative ones.
