Voldemar Eller (1906-2004), who received his art education at Ants Laikmaa’s studio, was, in addition to his work as a painter, also an important art critic and cultural official. His artistic legacy consists of impressionistic and realistic works in various genres. The Estonia Theatre and Concert Hall in Tallinn was restored in the period 1946-1951. The painting depicting its structure stylistically continues the plastic style of painting that prevailed during the German occupation (this style was also common in graphic art), in which a specific motif and decorative convention have merged.

People divided into three groups enliven the surrounding landscape and each model has a specific function in the painting – in addition to their work duties, they also play a compositionally balancing role. The historical building of the former Art Institute visible in the background adds topographical precision to the motif and is an important documentary reminder of the reconstruction of post-war Tallinn.
