Viktor Turp (1905-1989), originally from Viljandi County, received his primary art education under Eduard Ole and later continued at Pallas, graduating in 1929. In addition, Turp was also an active athlete, excelling at discus throwing and regularly participating in various ball games.
“The Gardener” from 1982 is full of sincere joy of color. Turp combines several different genres in the work to convey different aspects of the life philosophy of the main character of the painting. The gardener who is currently smelling the tulips that have bloomed lushly, seems like our very own Mary Poppins whose happiest moments in life are spent in the garden among plants and birds. A real mood lifter!
