Vello Vinn’s (b. 1939) “Stone Sphere III” belongs to a series depicting the same motif, interpreting the yin and yang, or opposing poles characterizing existence, from Chinese philosophy, as rock-hard. The universe and the beginning are also associated with this image.
“Stone Sphere III” depicts the traditional position of the yang sign in a mirror image, filled with a complex pattern. In this way, Vinn interprets the central visual symbol of Taoism in a playful and open way to various interpretations, including surreal and decorative ones.
