Vello Vinn (b. 1939), who stands in an autonomous position in Estonian graphic art with his unprecedentedly grandiose surrealist mirror images, presents an allegory of photography in his work “Hands I” which was only printed in 20 editions. As is well known, the birth of good photography requires not only a good eye but also a steady hand.
Both of these components – hands and cameras – are intertwined in Vinn’s work like inseparable Siamese twins. The hatching line characteristic of Vinn’s work is this time in the service of a neutral background, allowing the central collage-like shape of the picture to stand out well.
The print is also part of the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia.
