Varmo Pirk (1913-1980) was one of those creative people who was sent to a prison camp by the Soviet authorities. After his release in 1954, it took him some time to heal his body, weakened by the floggings there but he soon began to paint again and in 1957, he was already exhibiting again.
This painting is one of the first ones that Pirk completed under the influence of his newly found creative power. Its brightness and homeliness carry within it the warmth and brightness of home, just the kind that should prevail between best friends.
