Valdur Ohakas’ (1925-1998) female figure from 1966 is one of the most stylish expressionist nudes in his work. It’s as if the wild German painting culture of the 1910s-1920s a la Max Beckmann, which as a genre loved everything sensual, provocative and typical of the metropolis, comes to life before our eyes.

The naked woman in Ohakas’ piece is anything but modest. Her body language is confidently provocative but the intimate format of the painting still makes it very personal, individual. The precisely chosen colors highlight the bright figure as the central object of the composition.

Ohakas gifted the painting to his colleague Ilmar Torn from whose estate it will be auctioned.
