Valdur Ohakas (1925-1998) who loved experimentations with form, painted a female nude in a modern, Picasso-like style but the approach to colorism, which stems from the 1940s, the era of late impressionism in Estonian art schools, points to the Nordic school of painting instead.

“Cubist woman” is a striking example of the acquisition of modeling techniques that are classics of modern art and testifies to Ohakas’ work as a high-level nude painter in various different styles. The nude holding a mask offers the viewer food for thought: what or who is she about to become?
