Valdur Ohakas’ (1925-1998) portrait of a beautiful lady is a good example of the encounter between Picasso’s form formation and Pallas’ painting culture. The classic half-turned portrait – as was already loved in medieval Low German art – is both an outstanding psychological portrait of a strong female character and, on the other hand, the expressive tone painting characteristic of the artist.

For Ohakas, brown was always a magical color; under his brush, this color tone does not appear dull, frozen like a postcard from 19th-century academics. A white scarf and a light hat add elegance to the model, allowing her face to stand out even better.
