The late Palladian Ülo Teder (1923-2008) has captured several romantic Estonian locations with a malleable brushstroke. His rich use of color reveals the hidden charms of places, unearthing their deepest inner tones. For a man born in Võru and raised among the flowing, lush landscapes, rocky Saaremaa seemed crisp and exciting by comparison.

He has chosen only two buildings from the well-known Angla windmill ensemble there but the narrower motif shown in “Angla windmills” is sufficient for both topographic recognition and an understanding of how well the artist masters the late impressionist school of painting.
