Modern art master Toomas Vint (b. 1944) takes you to where you would like to be every day with his metaphysical landscapes – without distractions and noise. Just somewhere to be. “Close to the Sea” is a painting that definitely takes us to that place. The painting conveys the idea that we are in a park but from the smell of the sea in the air and the barely audible roar of the waves, we know that it is close. Right there, just a little further to go.

And this brings with it peace, contemplation and the opportunity to find balance within ourselves. There is no Magritte or de Chirico here, only Toomas Vint, in his unique way, with amazing detail and patience, searching for harmony in nature. With remarkable detail, he gathers the structure of the light image into itself, and this becomes the supporting component of the work. The philosophy hidden in the painting carries a message about walking around with open eyes and ears as there may always be a sea somewhere nearby…
