Tõnis Vint (1942-2019), who synthesized Far Eastern aesthetics, Art Nouveau, geometricism, and symbolism, is one of the most important creators of erotic graphics in Estonian art, whose work is primarily highly aestheticized and sensual, and only then frivolous and emotional.
Vint’s graphics are thought graphics, offering a beautiful meditative experience and always associative. In the work “Z21”, a beautiful woman appears from a box like a rabbit from a magician’s hat or a hatching baby bird, pieces of shell still caressing the body. The beginning of life is also expressed in the work by the symbol of an egg. The letter Z in the title of the picture may refer to Zen – after all, Tõnis Vint was an admirer and promoter of the Zen school of Japanese Buddhism.
