Silvia Jõgever (1924-2005) played an important role in the modernization of Tartu’s art scene from the second half of the 1950s. Her influential compositions were simultaneously built on contrasts, but on the other hand on their pure and clear tonal harmony. Similarly, they simultaneously carried both an inner tenderness and a spontaneity subject to the thrill of excitement.

Inspired by the reflection of a lake in Tartu County, the painting represents just that – a sensuously soft overall range, enlivened by deep, dark patches of color, which in turn, when reflected from the water surface, transform into soft tones. The delightfully fresh and yet harmonious view is the pinnacle of post-Pallas painting par excellence.
