This fascinating view, with a low sky and a wide horizon, seems like an archetype of the Estonian landscape. Silvia Jõgever (1924-2005), who is always associated with the post-World War II Tartu painting renewal in the second half of the 1950s and with works that intimately deal with various genres in a cabinet format, demonstrates her colorist abilities in this painting.
Painted in soft colors, generalized form design and with a wide brush, the painting teaches us to appreciate the mastery of the dominant combination of contrasting colors blue and green. “Landscape with a cloud” is also a kind of visualization of the crisp coolness of late summer or early autumn in Estonia.
