In Estonian graphic art, Silvi Liiva (1941-2023) is a phenomenon in her own right, a truly great figure of poetic symbolism. When it comes to feminine subtlety, sensitivity and tenderness, Silvi Liiva is par excellence. In Liiva’s 1980s graphic art, the action takes place in an empty, uncertain space.
The message is conveyed by effective human faces, which is also the case in “Messenger” that expressively shows a psychological state, tenderness, understanding and human closeness at the same time. There is something soul-stirring in this picture, reminding us of how fragile human relationships can be.
