The works of Rein Tammik (b. 1947), born in Valga, can be found in numerous foreign collections in addition to Estonian museums. In the 1970s, he stood out as an artist influenced by pop art and hyperrealism but in 1998, he exhibited a slightly erotic series of paintings at a solo exhibition at the Art Museum of Estonia – Rotermann Salt Warehouse. In the same year, he moved to France where he still resides.
Today, Tammik’s trademark is technically perfected works, of which we have an excellent example before us. The Côte Sauvage, or the famous rocky Wild Coast, is located in Brittany, France. Tammik’s painting style here is energetic and fresh and he can be called a masterful follower of the Impressionist tradition.
