Prangli is the only island in North Estonia that has been continuously inhabited since the 13th century. Priidu Aavik (1905-1991), who depicted the island in both the 1960s and 1970s, presents a romantic view of the harbor in this painting, with lush coastal trees and bushes decorating the backdrop.

Aavik, who studied under Nikolai Triik at Pallas, proves himself here as both a good mood transmitter as well as a masterful colorist – against the background of the bright pastel sky, the deep earth tones of the vegetation stand out well. Aavik also builds the composition of the painting in an exciting way, where the gaze begins to wander around the painting as if by itself – in addition to the foreground, the water surface in the middle and the sail masts stretching towards the sky in the background also attract attention. Excellent execution from a passionate marine painter.
