This large-scale painting belongs to Peeter Allik’s (1966-2019) creative heyday, the 1990s.

His “reflection” is absurd and spiced up with the juxtaposition of images: a happy man in a spacesuit and a young woman in leather gloves in a decisive pose. The relationship between the two is somewhat ambiguous – do they just happen to be posing together or are they a couple, or something else entirely?

There is also a contrasting intrigue: the woman is provocatively sexual, the man absolutely asexual. The viewer wonders if the artist imagined himself as an astronaut? Away from worldly desires. Interestingly, the man in the spacesuit has a brooch on his chest – again raising questions. Allik’s favorite theme with his paintings was to “mess up” the wires of ordinary citizens.

Everything is possible, everything can be thought and assumed. A person can name things according to their own level of corruption. The title “Autumnal reflection” is also spiced with irony because without seeing it, the name seems more suitable to characterize a nostalgic landscape painting. A very “Peter-like” painting!
