Märt Bormeister’s (1916-1991) work was based solely on Estonian subjects. He particularly enjoyed the architecture of old farms, imitating them accurately and with great respect. That is why his paintings also serve as accurate documentation of farm architecture of the time.

In “Palu farm, view from Kuku mountain”, Bormeister demonstrates his love for the motif through warm colors and romantic undertones. Typical of Võru County, we find carefully laid out wooden fences, a field plowed along a line and a row of flags separating the garden zone, which tells of the love of the local residents for their home.
