An idyllic summer day view from the Lahemaa resort demonstrates the affection for realistic artistic language that Märt Bormeister (1916-1991), who received his classical painting training at the State School of Art and Industry, had. The painting is influenced by both of his teachers, August Jansen and Roman Nyman, the former in the joy of color and the latter in the depiction of nature.

This charming piece depicting Mere Street in Võsu reflects the detail-loving artistic approach of the second half of the 19th century – a long and venerable tradition of urban and landscape painting genres. As an exciting effect, Bormeister paints shadows from trees and bushes in the foreground that remain outside the frame of the painting, inviting the viewer into a much wider space than is initially visible to the eye. Moreover, while looking at the piece which conveys the warm glow of light, the refreshing aroma of the pine forest at home just seeps into your nostrils.
