Painted with temperament and a broad brush, two lush bouquets of asters are a visual celebration of early autumn. Märt Bormeister’s (1916-1991) love of nostalgic Estonian motifs echoed throughout his work, including in the genre of flower paintings, and this is one of them.
The oil painting is characterized by immediacy, spontaneity, joy in the process itself as well as realistic imagery. Focusing primarily on painting the rich color palette of floral beauty, the color scheme does not become motley but is balanced as befits an academic composition. In the shadow of the powerful bouquets, Bormeister has placed two vases, the form of which is conditional, as is the background.
