Having received her art education at Tõnis Vint’s studio and later in Sweden, Marje Taska (b. 1955) developed into an artist who specializes in spiritual values cast in geometric form and has been working as a freelance artist for almost 50 years now. The internationally acclaimed artist has a long list of solo and group exhibitions, and her current hometown is Stockholm, in addition to Tallinn.
The artist’s 1994 piece “The spirit joining the material world” was inspired by her pregnancy. Working with the primordial egg shape, which represents both the male and the female, in this four-part acrylic painting the artist tells the story of the birth of the human soul. Taska’s works were exhibited in several prestigious art galleries across Sweden at the time, including this one, which was on display at the Ferm gallery in Malmö and received positive feedback in the cultural columns of Sydsvenska Dagbladet for its powerful message.
Most of Taska’s oil and acrylic paintings from the 1990s have now moved into private collections and museums both in Estonia and abroad.
