Mari Roosvalt (b. 1945), who stands out as a skilled composer of various techniques, has combined oil painting and photo collage in this piece, creating a mosaic nude painting that shimmers with sensuality. In this way, she touches on her father Evald Okas’ favorite genre but does so in a contemporary key that is unique to her.
The world-famous German-Australian photographer Helmut Newton is best known for his nude and fashion photographs. Roosvalt, however, reduces them to pictorial components of a picturesque composition, processing the photographs with paint and subordinating them into abstract color surfaces. The result is a dialogue between two creators, in which both have an equal position in the creation of a new work of art.
