Mall Nukke (b. 1964), who celebrates her 60th birthday this year, is an artistic favorite for all film lovers. This painting offers a glimpse into the fascinating world of the artist’s own film preferences, as it is here that her favorites meet: legendary Hollywood stars Charlie Chaplin and John Wayne, singing actresses Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe, not to mention the legendary Godfather himself, Marlon Brando, and other iconic film greats.
In a neo-pop style, Nukke has added her own additions to the cut-out photos of stars, so Jamie Foxx gets a fur hat and a stroking hand appears on Yoda’s head. However, she skillfully connects different eras and styles with a single red tone and splashes of color that emphasize spontaneity and dynamics, so that each element finds a very specific place in the story.
