Mall Nukke’s (b. 1964) “Sounds” is full of music from the title to the pearls and in the literal sense of the word because in the artist’s vision, the pearl-like spheres of the necklace symbolize pure fragments of sound that rhythmically bind a beautiful piece of music together. But when broken, they create improvisations with spontaneous flashes of sound.

The artist herself has said about this painting: “I really love visualizing. In the case of collage, you have to think about everything, otherwise it is not possible. Every last image here is put into the mind and vice versa. I placed the conductor at the top as the orchestra’s co-leader, and the first violin at the bottom. I wanted to use old sheet music in the composition that I had bought for my daughter who once studied the flute and, in my opinion, Beethoven came across in this piece. The baroque undulation emphasizes the charming fluidity of classical music.”

With this piece, we celebrate the 60th birthday of Mall Nukke.
