Maks Roosma (1909-1971), the founder of the Estonian national glass school, was also a virtuoso draftsman and graphic artist whose teacher in these fields was the legendary Günther Reindorff. In 1937, the artist was awarded the gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition.

The 1957 etching “Village in Muhu” could easily date back to the 1930s when depictions of historical Estonian farm landscapes became popular again. The romanticism and attention to detail emanating from the design express the artist’s love for the Estonian milieu and the crow sitting on the pole, which was also called the bird of wisdom, also serves as a symbol to emphasize this.
