The theme of hikers and summer residents appeared in Linda Kits-Mägi’s (1916-1990) work in the 1960s (see also “To the Train”, 1964, EKM). While summering in the scenic Valgemetsa, she often encountered holidaymakers who had traveled to Southern Estonia and this inspired her to design a large, 82 x 120 cm painting, which was also prepared in preparation for this piece.
In the artist’s characteristically temperamental, vibrant style of painting, he conveys the excitement in the air about the upcoming adventure before setting off on a hike. While the parents are busy filling the car parked in front of the house with everything they need, the children cannot hide their joy and run around the car, squealing.
