Kristiina Kaasik (1943–2024) is a classic Estonian painter, a grand master of visionary landscapes imbued with spiritualism and often generalized to the point of abstraction. Her trademark was the combination of glowing red and blue tones and the achievement of a special, almost as if burning, coloration, always full of emotion and passion.
This work draws its subject matter from the mythical spiritual kingdom of Shambala, which has established itself among Buddhists. It is said to have been located in Tibet and its inhabitants lived in complete harmony with each other and nature. Kaasik finds this harmony in colors and coloristically unites the composition into a whole through the color white, which is repeated in the fog, snowy peaks, and the sky – a kind of reflection of purity and sincerity.
