Heldur Viires (1927-2021), who was part of a group of young modernists formed in Tartu in the late 1950s, already showed compositional and technical maturity in his early work, which corresponded well to the teaching established at Pallas (more precisely, late Pallas, where Viires studied from 1945 to 1949).

The color scheme, almost subordinated to the principles of tonal painting, demonstrates the artist’s good sense of color and colorism, as well as excellent skill in depicting light. The work exudes love for the depicted motif and joy of a summer day, symbolized by the blue sky with white clouds.
