Evald Okas (1915-2011), a member of the Estonian Academy of Arts at the time, was known to have a special position as a sovereign practitioner of nude painting. It was his artistic palette, which also most clearly highlighted the artist’s abilities as a painter.
“Nude with oranges,” painted in 1982, is a good example of this. In the piece, Okas focuses on modeling the female body in a sensual pose, placing a pink sheet under the model, which blends well with her skin tone. As a contrasting color, the artist covers the entire canvas with a green background, which he only accentuates further with oranges – a scarce and highly prized fruit at the time.
