Born in Estonia and having studied art at Pallas and numerous foreign universities, Eugeni Noormägi (1903-1988) finally settled in Copenhagen after traveling around the world. Studying under renowned teachers allowed her to develop into a truly versatile painter with a distinctly personal style whose work is influenced by post-war French abstract or semi-abstract painting.

Noormägi has often depicted urban landscapes and nature. This pastel-toned view of one of the two most iconic landmarks in Paris (the other being the Eiffel Tower) demonstrates Noormägi as a skilled atmosphere and mood painter. The artist apparently began painting on an early summer morning as the painting is deliberately deserted and focused primarily on conveying the coloristic impression of the central object of the motif.
