Eugen Dücker (1841-1916), originally from Kuressaare, got his art education in St. Petersburg and, for his brilliant completion of his graduation thesis at the academy, received a scholarship to go to Germany, where he later became a renowned professor at the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts.

This beautiful coastal view pays tribute to one of the most important tools of coastal residents – the fishing boat, because the artist has placed the focal point not on a woman bustling on the beach, but on three fishing boats drawn to the beach, painted in great detail. Against the background of the calm sea, they have a monumental effect, a tribute to the craftsmanship of the boat builders. In addition, the painting does not lack one of Dücker’s signature features – the crystal-clear surface of the water.
