Erich Pehap (1912-1981), a talented painter and graphic artist, successfully participated in international art life even in exile, actively organized exhibitions, and combined artistic knowledge from both Estonia and Canada in his work. Having lived in Toronto for over 30 years, Pehap often portrayed his new hometown but always found a new and exciting perspective.

This painting, with its flickering op-art rhythm built on vertical lines and square brush strokes, vividly brings to mind the fast pulse of a metropolis. However, this cityscape is dominated by the mutually reflecting skyscrapers above the people who play only a modest role in the composition. The main goal of the painting, brightly colored in sunlight, is to convey the feeling of a metropolis whose rhythm never subsides.
