Efraim Allsalu (1929-2006), a representative of the Tartu School, is known as an artist with a sensitive sense of color. Allsalu, who graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1954, began to develop a nuanced, almost iridescent visionary style with partially overlapping and transparent color surfaces in the second half of the 1960s.

Alongside his previous main genres – portrait and composition – the proportion of flower paintings began to increase in the 1970s, a characteristic example of which is this painting here. Despite the title, there is more to the work than just the sunny yellow flowers – did you notice the sailboats gliding in the still water reflected from the flower stalks? Allsalu brings together the entire spectrum of summer pleasures in the piece!
