The portrait of Anne-Marie Delrieu was commissioned from Eduard Wiiralt (1898-1954) in early 1937. In February, he went to the Delrieu home to engrave the child’s portrait directly onto a plate. A photograph has survived, in which Vladimir Nieländer, an amateur artist born in Tallinn and who studied with Laikmaa, is also drawing or engraving Anne-Marie’s portrait alongside him.

The proof prints of the work date from the beginning of March without an engraved background and on March 19, 1937, Wiiralt sent the prints of the final version with the proof print to Alfred Rõude. There are few prints of this work and moreover, the plate was destroyed during the war. Wiiralt took commissioned works seriously as you can see. The head, shoulders and chest of a small, serious girl looking down slightly are clearly marked with a few light lines while the background is lightly toned with a needle.
