Paintings done in a realistic style of expression do not appear very often in the work of Edgar Valter (1920-2006) and these few examples are therefore all the more valuable. This is, on the one hand, a portrait of a specific child and on the other, an allegorical painting of autumn.

Allegories of the seasons are an old genre and a melancholic note is still reflected in the depiction of this colorful season. It is the same now. The red torn maple leaf over the girl’s shoulder, the platter with autumn fruits and above all, the model’s expression send out the message that something has ended – something to long for.

The piece will be auctioned from the Edgar Valter estate.
