“Golden summer in a glass vase” is an exceptional piece by one of our most famous surrealist painters, Edgar Valter (1929-2006) who, as a flower painter, surprises us with realism. The simple summer bouquet of Estonian field and meadow flowers is accented by longer grass stalks, which add airiness to it.

The painting is both detailed and picturesque, continuing a centuries-old tradition of flower painting and yet unique and a celebration of the flora of the artist’s homeland. The reddish-brown toned tabletop and background are painted neutrally for the sole purpose of highlighting the joy of color in the composition.

The piece will be auctioned from the Edgar Valter estate.
