Concordia Klar (1938-2004) was one of the best-known representatives of poetic figurative graphics of the 1970s-90s. Her print “With your own hand”, which can be seen as an allegorical urban planning story, is inspired by ancient mythology. While Klar usually uses a poetic female figure in her sublime urban compositions, this time she brings to the center of the image a divinely powerful figure known from the work of ancient sculptors, to whom art historian Mai Levin has appropriated the meaning of creative courage.
Her golden curls fluttering in the wind transform into forest hair on the back of her hand and end in an imaginary floating urban landscape – a world created by her own hands. The piece is also part of the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia and is reproduced on page 98 in the collection “Concordia Klar”, Tallinn 2006.
