Andres Tolts (1949-2014) was known as an aesthete. His approach to painting was similar to his lifestyle, that of disciplined working methods. He always came to the studio in the morning, around nine o’clock. When other artists started arriving at their studios at noon, Tolts had already finished painting for the day.
This landscape series expresses his essence perfectly: the painting surface is divided into three identical squares, the middle one into two more parts. The image of the landscape is a tiny particle of abstract surfaces. These abstract squares and the rectangle in addition convey the feeling of infinity and emptiness of the landscape. What comes in autumn, when the leaves fall. Only the winter sown by human hands turns green…
