The painting, full of the crisp excitement of early springtime, belongs to the portfolio of early works of Andrei Jegorov (1878-1954), a renowned deaf-mute painter in Estonian art history. Jegorov had a special talent for capturing just the right tone that conveys the freshness of the snow and the crisp coolness of the air.

The green earth, which has melted from under the snow cover in places, is just as hard as we know it in the first months of spring, and the river, freed from its icy cover, looks just as rough. But despite all this, there is a smell of spring in the air! We all recognize it.
