Alo Hoidre (1916-1993, until 1935 Alo Horn) fell in love with painting late in his life, when he seemed to rediscover the exciting world of materials and techniques and his temperament suddenly opened up in new ways. With obvious pleasure, in the 1980s he began to depict the endless bustle of life, party and carnival scenes, joyful women filling the picture space, sometimes in the company of men, sometimes dogs and cats. The color of his works also became much richer and brighter.

The mixed media painting “A big party” is an ambiguous image of various aspects of femininity. Of course, the piece is characterized by a sensual undertone, characteristic of Hoidre, but alongside it is a successful compositional perfection and a coloristic joy subordinated to the color blue. The work is full of joy of life and a riot of passion, its brisk rhythm invites the viewer to enjoy the present moment.
