Painter Ado Lill (1932-2018) who often created absurd situations and erotic imagery in his graphics, loved to interpret women’s relationships throughout his creative path. The sensitive “Silence” of two female nudes visualizes the wordless communication between them.

The realistic bodies in a space modeled with dramatic chiaroscuro prove that Lill was no stranger to the symbolist artistic language. By placing one nude in the darkness and the other in the light, he takes the viewer on a philosophical journey – could this perhaps be the same person depicted here whose different aspects of personality are brought to light through a moment of silence?
