Evald Okas’ (1915-2011) rare work “Ärkvel” (circulation of only 15) belongs to one of the most brilliant creative periods of his portfolio. At that time, with over half a century of experience under his belt, he had been appreciated and awarded in many ways already. Inspired by the recognition, he continued to work actively.
Against the dark background, the woman’s body appears elegantly porcelain white, further emphasizing its sensuality and beauty. However, Okas balances the work, charged with erotic tension, with the softness of aquatint, which, with its bright white spots of light, has an unearthly, almost fairy-tale effect. Before us is a multi-layered and intoxicatingly exciting narrative.
