As art historian Elnara Taidre has said, the works of Mare Vint (1942-2020) convey special, existential moments where one is confronted with the world and oneself. While the depicted architectural objects are strictly geometric, the elements of nature meander more freely, and therefore the structuring in Mare Vint’s prints operates on several levels (“Mare Vint’s ideal landscapes”, Sirp, 15.09.2017). A similar tendency is clearly visible in her “North Estonian Landscape II”, in which the fence drawn with a ruler and the power lines are strictly parallel, but the rustling grove of trees brings a balancing softness to it.
Vint’s imagery, dubbed the perfect romanticism, has rightfully earned the title of “ideal landscapes”. There is never anything superfluous in it, every smallest dot or line is clearly in its place. The works allow the viewer to step into their own dreams, into the most beautiful memories of childhood when, enjoying the sunrise through the gentle mist of a summer morning, all the worries of everyday life were suddenly forgotten.
