Considered one of Günther Reindorff’s most promising students, Hugo Lepik (1905-2001) was known before the war as a lecturer at the Estonian School of Industrial Art and as a graphic artist. Alongside this, however, he increasingly found himself as a painter, which eventually became his main field of work in Sweden, where the artist moved in 1944.

The calmly poetic mood, soft pastel colors, and clear forms speak of a creator with a balanced nature. A lone snow-white sailboat on the smooth water seems like a dream of a bright future – something that has spoken to both artists and viewers throughout time.
