Boris Ninemäe (1925-1991) found inspiration in everyday situations. His models did not pose in the studio but instead, peacefully continued their daily activities in front of the artist, mostly in the field or on the beach. He has called this work “Happy Fishermen” and through the depiction of a father and son, he emphasizes the tradition of carrying on this profession from generation to generation.
Artist Eneli Luiga writes: “The painting depicts a happy moment: the boat has reached the shore, the boxes are full of fish, and the nets are still full of more. The surface of the painting is equally rich and juicy as the catch, the harmony of its blue and green tones is mildly striking and at the same time fresh. The fishermen’s faces are turned towards each other, and their close proximity suggests good and happy relationships, which makes the viewer happier too – it really is a nice day!”
