Malle Leis’ (1940-2017) silkscreen works were produced in a serial manner, characteristic of pop art. Like Andy Warhol, she created one print in different color combinations, all of which were enchantingly exciting and appetizing to the eye. The artist had a great sense of precisely dosed color ratios, down to the finest nuances.
The color scheme of her prints was not necessarily taken one by one from nature, and when placing them in the composition, she skillfully played with the central motif and background. Thus, the light green color of the grapes is central and true to nature in this design; the red roses, however, are reduced to an extension of the wine-red background, appearing muted. Once again, a great work from the most well-known botanical fanatic in Estonian art!
