The Estonian modernist master Kristiina Kaasik (1943-2024) paints the mountain as an object of meditation, as something mystical and monumental. The Red Mountain has no geographical location and that is not important. What is important is the hidden feeling and artistic power of the painting, as it was expressed in the landscape paintings of the early German Romantics.

However, in Kaasik’s painting, a gigantic rock can be just as important, like a boulder associated with myths, next to which a person, in his smallness, perceives the primal power of nature. The color of the textured mountain is in turn reflected on the ground, where two travelers are moving towards it. A beautiful figuratively charged work.
