In Mall Nukke’s (b. 1964) collages of the 1990s, international stars of the time met local celebrities as equals, and the creative apotheosis of this was the wall decoration of the newly opened nightclub Hollywood. Nukke often dealt with the themes of love and sexuality in these collages, often in a very playful way. Art Nouveau ornamentation and photo collage form a stylish formal whole and the bunny with a mossy face placed on the left emphasizes the ironic spirit of the entire painting.
Mall Nukke adds: “The Birth of Eros from 1994 was inspired by Greek mythology. It was pleasant to find metamorphic connections to the present day. Eros was the fruit of the secret love between the most beautiful woman in the world, Aphrodite, and the god of war, Ares. In the piece, Father Ares is depicted as the soloist of the band Rammstein, a manly guy with a wrench, and a carefree figure of a little Aphrodite in the lower right corner. In the foreground, however, is the image of a rabbit, on the one hand a symbol of fertility, on the other hand a symbol of Playboy. Opposite the rabbit, the band Army of Lovers, popular artists of the time, gallop. Eros himself is not consciously depicted, he is in the air and invisible but recognizable to everyone. “
