The richly textured glass sculpture is a technically complex work by Ivo Lill (1953-2019), one of Estonia’s most internationally renowned glass artists. “On the way to the top”, which aspires to heights from a single point, is constructed as if by a medieval alchemist – here Lill uses the optical properties of glass to create reflections and counter-reflections of geometric surfaces and the illusion of spatial depth.
The opening of the internal structure of glass is an important characteristic of his works but at the same time, the external finish of Lill’s works is always orderly – polished and honed to perfection.
